Q. How do I get more people on my list?

A. Consistency! Place opportunities to join your list throughout your website (try creating a free “lead magnet” or incentive to get people to join your list) and on social media. Encourage your audience to sign up to get more tips by teasing information.

Q. What’s an open or clickthrough rate? Are unsubscribes bad?

A. An open rate is the percentage of subscribers who actually opened the email, while the clickthrough rate is how many clicked through the link/call-to-action in your email. Both are important, as are unsubscribes. Too many of these mean you aren’t sending the right content to connect with subscribers.  

Q. When should I send out emails?

A. This truly depends. The best way to find out is to test sending your emails on different days of the week or at different times of the day. You can also survey your audience and ask them when they’d like to receive your emails.

Q. What about subject lines?

A. The most important piece of email marketing is your subject line. It doesn’t matter what you wrote if they don’t open it! To get more opens, think about how your audience talks. Write in their language and think about what would make them excited to learn more. But keep it short!
